General

Unfortunately this form of bodywork is not recognized under insurance.

Our bodywork approach uses a variety of methods that specifically work with the connective tissue of the body- the fascia! Combining training in Structural Integration, Visceral manipulation, Craniosacral Therapy, Fascial Stretch Therapy, and many other complimentary modalities and techniques that aim to bring balance and harmony to the body.

Though we often have patients referred, we do not require a referral to book an appointment.

Yes. Cancellations within 24 hours of your appointment are subject to a full fee charge of your appointment.

Fascia

Fascia is understood in many circles of research and education as all collagenous-based soft tissues of the body. So basically, anything in your body that has collagen. That is a lot of the body! Your fascia consists of 3 main ingredients: collagen, elastin, and ground substance (also known as the extra-cellular matrix or ECM).

Depending on who you talk to, “tight” fascia may not be a consideration, but rather where (and how) the fascia is stuck rather then tight. Our fascia is one big connective web in our body, and where one area is stuck “short”, it’s common for another area to be stuck “long” to reorganize the tension. Often when it comes to our fascia, if we’re experiencing pain in one area, it can be a completely different area that’s responsible for the pain.

Typically, our body’s tissue layers slide along each other as our body moves and provides range of motion and proper functional support. Adhesions can build up due to surgery, trauma (such as over use to an area), or even repetitive strain from sport performance. This tissue can thicken over time to assist in the healing process, and to adapt to our body’s needs. This can cause these fascial layers to stick and “adhere” together.

The term fasciitis” describes inflammation of the plantar fascia. Much like “tendonitis”, the use of “iitis” indicates that the area in question is strained. There is no one-cause to plantar fasciitis, although any work on the fascia that aims to reorganize the body and shift the tension has been shown to be an effective approach to this ailment.

The more we are learning about fascia, the more understanding we have that it is an integral part of our overall health and vitality. Not only can our fascia help us to move better and feel more supported in our bodies, but research shows that treating the fascia in cancer patients (for example) has shown to help them in their recovery, manage symptoms, and help them to live better through their diagnosis. In fact, maintenance of healthy tissue, and pliability of our fascia can help lower the overall potential risk of cancer!

Hydrate, move, stretch, get bodywork, or use self-fascial release tools, and maintain a variety of movement and exercise as part of your lifestyle.

Structural Integration

Anyone and everyone!
Dr. Rolf (who created structural integration) believed that all bodies carry some degree of postural dysfunction. In many cases, people who find their way to an SI practitioner, have often exhausted traditional medical treatments and are ready to try an alternative or holistic form of treatment. Structural Integration, complimented with appropriate movement has been shown to produce long-lasting solutions to getting out of deeply help patterns.

Once you go through the SI series, your body is a different body. Your tissue has changed, your body’s receptivity has changed, and your body’s ability to adapt to new movements with greater ease is inherently different. Changes can continue even long after the series is complete, however what you do with your body outside of treatment can cause the body to adjust into similar patterns.

Once you’re booked for your initial consultation, you will receive electronic intake forms to fill out. An appointment reminder, including the address, date/time, and what to wear to your session will be emailed to you prior to your appointment.

Structural Integration carries a very specific intention- to reorganize the body.

Unlike the many varieties of massage therapy where you can achieve stress reduction, tissue relaxation, detoxifying, and evoking an increasing feeling of relaxation, SI looks to achieve long-lasting structural changes within the body that can effectively eliminate chronic pain, and evoke a newfound sense of body awareness and kinesthetic education.

SI generally should not hurt, however it is important to distinguish the difference between sensation and pain. Depending on the territory of where your practitioner is working, old (and new) sensations can arise. If at any point your feeling pain with an intensity that causes you to withdraw in any way, it is recommended to communicate this with your practitioner so they can adjust their depth of work with you.

Coined by Thomas Myers, the Anatomy Trains Lines, also known as the myofascial meridians, are specific lines of connective tissue (fascia) that run through the body. Many practitioners in a variety of disciplines use these lines as a guide, or a map when working with the body. The Anatomy Trains Structural Integration Series is a recipe of bodywork that works specifically with these lines to reorganize the body’s fascia.

The ATSI 12-Series is much like the Rolfing 10-series. With similar goals and intentions of creating space within the body, balancing the body in gravity, and realigning the body’s tension system, the Anatomy Trains Series is slightly different in approach as each session focus on a different “fascial line”. There are a variety of benefits that can be had from receiving the SI Series. Most commonly noted is a sense of support and buoyancy in the body. Because the Series is a progression of work, it is highly effective in creating deep structural changes, shifting the body out of chronic pain, and producing long-lasting changes. Bodywork

In their development, children are forming their structural patterns in relationship to how they hold themselves and how they move. The term “like father, like son” can apply to structural patterns with parents and their children, as children look to their parents to learn about the world, and how to organize themselves in relationship to it. Because children are still developing, receiving bodywork is often highly effective due to the plasticity of both the brain and the tissue. Even in puberty as the body thrusts itself into maturity it is a highly effective time for one to shift out of unhelpful patterns.

Our fascia is highly influential to our vitality – so yes! Bodywork is effective for those who are looking to slow down the effects of aging such as body stiffness, aching joints, movement challenges, etc, and bring vitality back in to their life!

Bodywork (of many kinds) can be an amazing part of your self-care routine through the journey of conception, pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. Depending on where you’re at in this journey, your practitioner will adjust your treatments accordingly. Due to the continuous shifts and changes the body goes through, it is not recommended to begin the Structural Integration Series during pregnancy, however it is highly recommended to receive the series postpartum when the body can reorganize itself and establish a new center of gravity.

Once you’re booked for your initial consultation, you will receive electronic intake forms to fill out. An appointment reminder, including the date, time, and what to wear to your session will be emailed to you prior to your appointment.
